Great Backyard Bird Count

  • Glen Foerd 5001 Grant Avenue Philadelphia, PA, 19114 United States (map)

Join the Environmental Team and their intern from Holy Family University for the Great Backyard Bird Count, a global event that connects people through bird watching. Participants will practice bird identification, learn about local bird species, and submit their sightings to support global conservation research.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a community science event created by Cornell and held every February, where people around the world observe and count birds in their areas. This helps scientists track bird populations, migration patterns, and environmental changes.

We will start at 4 pm by the flagpole along the river, but folks can join at any point during the event. There will be a handful of binoculars available to borrow, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if possible.

Note that birding backpacks with binoculars and field guides are on loan at the following local Philly libraries: Andorra, Cobbs Creek, Cecil B. Moore, Chestnut Hill, Eastwick, Falls of Schuylkill, Fishtown, Fox Chase, Greater Olney, Independence Library, Logan, Lovett Memorial, Northeast Regional, Oak Lane, Parkway Central, Richmond, South Philly, Torresdale, West Philadelphia Regional, and Widener.
