This residency does not provide housing or dedicated studio space. The resident artist will work with Glen Foerd staff to coordinate site visits, collections access, research needs, and production needs.

Glen Foerd is pleased to open applications for its 2021 Artist Residency opportunity. Artists in residence create original, site-specific artworks of any medium that engage audiences and expand understanding of Glen Foerd’s collections and site.
In fulfillment of Glen Foerd’s mission, artists are highly encouraged to engage with local audiences and our historical collections or the surrounding environment when in residence. The context and form of engagement are very flexible and can be coordinated with Glen Foerd staff during the residency.

The 2021 Glen Foerd Residency Includes:
$3000 towards artist compensation and material costs
An opportunity to present work in an indoor or outdoor public setting
Professional documentation of works and process (if desired)
Access to Glen Foerd’s full collection of decorative art, fine art, architecture, and grounds
Promotion on Glen Foerd’s website and social channels
Potential to engage with Glen Foerd’s network and audience beyond the residency period
Residency Candidate Requirements:
The ability to produce a high quality, site-specific work
Willingness to engage audiences
Flexibility and understanding of historic preservation and collections management concerns while working with Glen Foerd (See full restrictions here)
Ability to travel to and from Glen Foerd for site visits and installation
An openness to sharing thoughts on their work, their practice, and their processes through Glen Foerd’s communication channels
Artists must be 21 years or older and must reside within the Philadelphia Area
How to Apply:
Glen Foerd will receive applications via Submittable. Detailed application instructions are included in the online Submittable form. Applicants will receive a confirmation email once their application has been submitted and received.
Applicants will be asked to complete a form consisting of:

Three long-answer questions, including a statement of interest and work proposal
CV
Portfolio of 5-10 work samples (images, audio, video, or text) with an accompanying list of samples and descriptions
Please keep audio and video submissions to a combined time limit of 10 minutes or less and text submissions to a combined limit of 5 pages or less.
A $10 non-refundable application fee will be paid through Submittable. 100% of this fee goes towards the cost of the Submittable platform. If you are unable to pay this fee, please reach out to dianneloftis@glenfoerd.org.
The submittable portal will be open from September 11, 2020 to November 13, 2020. The deadline for submissions is November 13 at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed blind by our selection panelists, Heather Moqtaderi, Valerie Gay, and Paul Farber, alongside our staff. All applicants will be notified of their status by December 2020.
