OVERVIEW: Glen Foerd on the Delaware seeks a new Executive Director to provide dynamic leadership for this nonprofit organization, dedicated to preserving and enhancing the historic Glen Foerd estate while engaging the community through a variety of creative and environmental programs. In cooperation with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Glen Foerd on the Delaware stewards the estate’s 18 acres of land (at the confluence of the Poquessing Creek and Delaware River) and historic buildings while working with local artists and innovators to provide public programs and events. Open to the public from dawn to dusk, Glen Foerd’s grounds are listed on the Historic American Landscape Survey while its buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The new Executive Director (ED) will lead efforts to leverage Glen Foerd’s combined waterfront location, historical context, and cultural landscape in offering opportunities to explore the intersection of art, history, horticulture and the environment. The ED will direct programs, planning, fundraising, policymaking, staffing, and operations. In partnership with the Board of Directors, the ED will refine, develop, and implement innovative and strategic programs for educational activities, fundraising and strategic partnerships, and community outreach and engagement.


  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a museum, park, or nonprofit organization, preferably with at least five years in a senior management role for an organization with a budget of $500,000+.

  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans with proven ability to provide strong and steady leadership, vision and strategic direction.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards and best practices for operations of museums, parks, nonprofits, or similar organizations.

  • Track record of success in raising funds, awareness, and support through various techniques (including grant writing, donor cultivation, and event management).

  • Proven ability to cultivate and foster productive relationships and partnerships with various constituents, including volunteers, community members, other organizations, and funders;

  • Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically, and effectively with Boards, volunteers, and staff, as well as in community relations and outreach capacities.

  • Evidence of success in developing, managing, and growing an annual operating budget. Strong business management skills.

  • Superior oral and written communications skills, with ability to present and speak publicly on relevant issues.

  • Proven business acumen with excellent planning, time management, and decision-making skills.

  • Willingness to work a variable schedule, including weekends and evenings, as needed.

  • Minimum education requires a bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred.

Position Summary: Glen Foerd on the Delaware seeks a Boating Coordinator to lead an environmental and recreational community boating program (kayaks and rowboats). This is a part-time position.

Boating Program Objectives:

  • Connect the community to the Delaware River and Poquessing Watershed through first-hand experiences

  • Increase awareness and understanding of the Delaware River ecosystems and history of human interactions with the river

  • Build a constituency of advocates for clean waterways


  • Provide logistical and administrative support for all aspects of the boating program

  • Monitor users on the water, weather, and potential safety issues

  • Provide safety instructions to all boat users, and strictly enforce all safety rules to maintain a safe environment

  • Operate motorized chase boat to provide on-water assistance and/or rescue to boat users and program participants

  • Perform opening and closing tasks and maintain operational flow of program

  • Assist in training and managing volunteers to assist with boating program and watershed stewardship activities

  • Perform additional tasks as necessary including event support in other Glen Foerd programs, boat and facility upkeep, etc.

  • Coordinate with community partners and program staff to build a seasonal event calendar.


  • PA boating license, CPR & First Aid certification a plus

  • Motorboat driving experience; ability to operate a motorboat in all weather conditions

  • Availability on weekends/evenings a must

  • Comfortable with basic administrative tasks

  • Positive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude

  • Ability to communicate basic information and rules to the public

  • Adaptable and flexible with quickly changing environments
