Riverside Concert Series: The John Bryne Band

The John Bryne band is led by Dublin native and Philadelphia-based John Bryne. Their debut album, After the Wake, was released to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic in 2011. With influences ranging from Tom Waits to Planxty, John’s songwriting honors and expands upon the musical and lyrical traditions of his native and adopted homes. He has performed at venues ranging from the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia to the Mercantile in Dublin.

The Riverside Concert Series is a rain or shine event. Admission is pay-what-you-wish with a suggested donation of $5.

BYO Girls Night Out: Leather Necklace Workshop

Get your friends together to make one of a kind jewelry to show off this summer! Enjoy an evening with wine, a view of the water and good friends.

Learn how to make your own leather necklace and earring set in this workshop hosted by Glen Foerd and taught by Julie Bradley-Norton of Florance and Leah. In this workshop you will learn how to combine the timeless craft of Scherenschnitte ( little cuts in German) and simple jewelry making techniques including attaching chains, jump rings and fasteners.

Julie Bradley-Norton is a local artisan in the Philadelphia area who has been working with re-purposed leathers since 2010, her company Florance and Leah named after her grandmothers was formed in 2013. More information can be found @ www.floranceandleah.com

Bug Hunt! Youth Workshop

Your child will go buggy for this workshop about all things insects! Participants will get up close and personal with live specimens brought by Philadelphia’s insectarium. The day will include making a bug box, going on a nature walk to look for creepy crawlies in their natural habitat on the grounds of the estate and bug inspired snacks. Space is limited. $25 per child, ages 7 to 13.

Clay Thanksgiving Platter Workshop

Create a unique clay platter to serve up your homemade goodies on Thanksgiving day! Go on a short, guided nature walk on our property to gather leaves and flora as inspiration before heading indoors to make a handbuilt dish of your own design with an instructor from The Clay Studio.

Use your gathered natural materials to press into the clay to make a one of a kind autumnal design. This class is for all levels, no prior clay experience necessary. Pieces will be fired and returned to Glen Foerd for pick-up prior to Thanksgiving. $45 per student. Sign up with a friend and both pay $40.

Weekday Bird Walk with the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club

Celebrate Spring with an early morning bird walk. Linda Widdop, of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, will lead a walking tour to look for spring migrants, lingering ducks and gulls, and with luck the resident Bald Eagles. This is a free event co-sponsored by the DVOC and Glen Foerd.

Science After School @ The Holmesburg Library

Join Glen Foerd at the Holmesburg Library for Science After School, a free event in partnership with the Philadelphia Science Festival.

In this hands-on activity, kids will learn about buoyancy and what causes objects to float or sink. Using foil and clay, participants can craft their own boats and see if they can stay above water. Stop by anytime between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.
