On Saturday, April 12, 2008, I attended the Hood/Ftomyn Wedding at the Estate. It was, I must say, the most exquisite wedding I have ever been to in my lifetime. Everything was perfect, every need seen to and fulfilled. The food was excellent, and there was even a wine tasting in a quaint wine cellar! When I walked out to the river, one of the first things I did was have my photo taken sitting on the "dog"; little did I know how much he would come to mean to me! I was so intrigued, I had to further find out the history of the estate; so I found myself here. Also, I have recommended this location to some friends for their or their children's receptions. Bravo. Bernadette Lynch Maskery I just recently joined as a member this year by another member (my mother, Joan Sabatini). I took a tour earlier this year (with my boyfriend) with two free guest passes that my mother had, and we both enjoyed it immensely! We both hope to attend (my boyfriend and I) the Holiday Open House on Sunday and the "Scottish Style" event in January. We are both on different work schedules (I work two jobs, and he's on night work), which makes it kind of tough, but we'll manage to attend one or the other (or both)... Thank You and have a Happy New Year! Joni I. Cattolico I remember for years up to 2006 my aunt Helen Oxman and her family. She was my dad's sister and my family would go to Glen Foerd every winter. It was a lovely time for all of us. Great memories. Lynda Appell My husband and I had our wedding reception at Glen Foerd in August 2003. As soon as we saw the mansion and the grounds we knew that this was the place. Our guests still rave about the venue and the food, saying it was the most beautiful, delicious and unique reception they had ever attended. I tell everyone about it now. Alyssa S. My husband and I were married at Glen Foerd November 1988 and we still have fond memories of our special day. Having our wedding at GF was the best decision for our intimate affair and our guests still relate that it's the best wedding they've ever been to, and it's now 18 years later. It was a wedding like no other. Maria Our daughter Cheryl Wolfe and son in law Anthony Perpetua were married at your Mansion on Oct. 24, 2004. It was a beautiful affair and the grounds, food, and atmosphere were just wonderful. It was my first visit there and enjoyed it very much. What a great choice they made for their wedding. John & Dolores Giorgi Dear Glen Foerd, Sherry Metzger We thoroughly enjoyed the reception given for Travis and Klaudia Shick on Sunday Aug. 14, 2005. Everything about the building, the staff and the grounds were beautiful. The food was excellent and the bride and groom were radiant. So happy we were invited, and able to attend! Doris & John
Thomas Dear Maintainers of Glen Foerd, It is nice to read guest comments that suggest the house is being used and enjoyed. I recall a solidly built structure but wonder if, for example, the floors and staircase withstand. Judging from comments, it seems all is well. Thank you, Hello Jennifer and her staff, My son Stephen and Melissa were married on July 30th 2005. The reception at Glen Foerd could not have been better, from the food to staff to the Estate. The next day our family talked about the next event we should have there. Thanks for the memories. PS Jen (also the weather) Sincerely, Dear Glen Foerd Proprietors, I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Deubert-Rush wedding on 07-16-05. My husband and I were simply taken aback by the beauty of your mansion and grounds. The hospitality that your hostesses showed us was excellent. The open air feel of the mansion created a warm and inviting ambience. I don't believe I have ever enjoyed a wedding more (other than my own of course)! Thanks so much for preserving such a beautiful piece of history for the public to share. It was a real treat! Sincerely, I attended your summer concert this evening (7/20/05) and it was a pleasurable experience. I plan to attend more functions. Hats off to the staff who put the concert together.
John Klein Dear Chef, Management and Staff, We would like to thank you for providing us, our families and our dear friends an evening they will always remember. The evening was December 4, 2004 when our son Ray married his dearest friend Autumn Katzenmoyer. The mansion was elaborately decorated for the holidays. The staff was so supportive, treating us all as family. The food was delicious and expertly served. We realize that the wedding was the culmination of many hours of planning. During the planning stages the staff and caterers were very accommodating and supportive. It all equated to a perfect ceremony and reception. From everyone's description, the Glen Foerd Mansion is the perfect place to begin a married life together.
Richard and Rosemary Bieg Hello, I just heard of your mansion the other day from a friend. We are part of a chapter of the Red Hat Society. Sincerely, Marie Giovetsis Marie Giovetsis Bensalem, Pa USA - My daughter was married at the Mansion on Halloween evening October 2003. We just celebrated their 1st anniversary and it brought back all the memories of the lovely wedding. Everything was picture perfect from the outdoor candlelight ceremony to the lovely reception. Our guests truly enjoyed touring the art gallery and the exquisite rooms in the mansion. The food was fabulous and the staff impeccably professional and attentive. I am so happy my daughter and son-in-law chose your beautiful mansion for a most memorable occasion. Thank you to all. Greetings: I had the pleasure of attending my dear friends Cheryl Wolfe and Tony Perpetua's Wedding yesterday, October 24, 2004 and it was picture perfect. The food was wonderful and the help was just great. Your Mansion is so beautiful. Everyone should have the opportunity to visit such a wonderful place. It was the nicest Wedding that I have ever attended. I loved how we could just walk around from room to room. It made it so homey. Keep up the good work. I look forward to hosting an event there some time in the future. My husband and I were married at Glen Foerd on Sept. 28, 2002. We could not have asked for a more gorgeous day! The grounds and the river were spectacular. It was so romantic...The food and service at the reception were wonderful as well. I would recommend Glen Foerd to anyone who appreciates the history, architecture, and natural beauty that the site offers. Katie Alley North Wales, PA USA - I am a born and raised Philadelphia who never heard of this estate. I recently stumbled apon this beautiful place by mistake while looking for a home to buy. I was just driving around river front homes searching for the home of my dreams;and found this home! Since then I have ask several freinds and family members if they ever heard of this estate, and to my surprise no one has. What ashame; I have taken my kids, niece and nephew and all fell in love! This is truely a place where schools should do a little history teaching! We now go about once a month and just sit by the river and day dream; what a relaxing place to be. And now that I have read the history what a wonderful place to dream! I truly pray my grandchildren have a chance to enjoy this place as well. Please to all who are responsible "keep up the good work!" And thank you! Theresa Marie Vail <terryvail4514@aol.com> Philadelphia, PA USA - I previously added a guestbook entry about 8 years ago. I had attended a Pancake breakfast and sang in a local choir there. Little did i know at the time that I was pregnant with my son. Well today I took him to the grounds to help him discover the beautyof Glen Foerd for himself. I was hesitant that a young child wouldn't grasp the importance of such a historical site. I was dead wrong. Using our imaginations we pretended we were the residents of the estate back in the 1800's. It was wild. Along the way he asked me to read the names of the trees and was strangely interested in all the beauty and discoveries. We are planning on coming to the evening event on May 18, 2004 at 7:00pm so that he may experience the interior of the mansion and hear the history of the estate. He also (though only 8) is already declaring this the site for his wedding! :) This place is so tranquil and magnificent that you MUST come see it in person. Thank you to all the caretakers and Board for keeping it going. Kathy <Ducky58888@aol.com> Formerly Torresdale now Rhawnhurst, PA USA - I have loved the grounds of Glen Foerd for years, I used to work at Riverside House years ago and I would walk the grounds for exercise. Someone once told me that Mr. Foerd put in his will that the property belonged to all Torresdale Residents and that is why the gates are open for walks and tranquil moments. I am not sure if this is true but if it is then we should be very thankful for this gift. Another great place to go is the Eden Hall Park just up the street on Grant Avenue. Although the original building are mostly destroyed, the park is still perfect for walks and quite moments under a tree. Thanks for keeping the mansion alive and well. It was not until a 1996 Pancake Breakfast that I attended that I discovered the mansion. Since then I have only been there two times. Once while performing in a Holiday Choral Concert this past Winter. I found out about your web site through the preservation listserv. Thanks for the historic tour. David Goldfarb <goldfarb@seniorlaw.com> Staten Island, NY USA - Philadelphia has held great fascination for me from childhood on. The Mansions of Fairmont Park and the Wissahickon are national treasures. Much has been lost in Philadelphia. The quality of the city and scale has been significantly altered since the end of WW2. I remember the building of the Skuykill Expressway through the Parkland that permanently altered the character of that area, including the river banks. Your site is delightful. David Jones <djones@panix.com> Staten Island, NY USA - I was invited to your site via the Old House listserv. I'm glad I was invited as it is a most impressive Web site! I've seen many and this is one of the best Web designs I've come across. Good job on your site. Oh, and the house looks pretty cool too! Dave Pinyerd <dap@oregon.uoregon.edu> Eugene, OR USA - I am president of a local preservation non-profit, the Preservation Action Council of San Jose. We are an education and advocacy group working on several projects. My complements on your website. Please visit ours: www.preservation.org. Andre Luthaard <aluthard@baynetworks.com> San Jose, CA USA - What a timeless beauty! Can't wait to visit. Linda L.
