Mrs. Foerderer's Stearns Automobile
Mrs. Foerderer purchased her first touring car, a Stearns, for $4500.00 in 1907. Frank Ballou Stearns, of Cleveland, Ohio, was thought to produce one of the finest cars made in America. Stearns' cars were well known for their innovations which included a steering wheel from 1901, a sliding gear transmission from 1902, and a magneto in 1904. The Stearns company became the Stearns-Knight company in 1912 and lasted until 1929 when the crash ended its illustrious career.
